Language Instruction
Supporting, strengthening, and furthering language teaching at Northwestern University
The Language Resource Center (LRC) is committed to provide a comprehensive support system for language instructors, in close collaboration with their home departments and programs, and to help them access existing resources, tools, and expertise on our campus.
The LRC also aims to foster an environment where language teaching becomes a vibrant and innovative experience in which collaborative projects across languages take center stage. We recognize the importance of building a supportive community of language educators, where ideas and experiences are shared, and effective teaching practices are celebrated. Some of the ways in which the LRC can support language faculty may be:
- Establishing direct communication with language programs and departments, the Dean’s Office, Council on Language Instruction, Media and Design Studio, and relevant university committees through our Advisory Board members
- Managing the Hewlett Fund for Curricular Innovation (for language-related proposals)
- Curating a database of other funding resources on campus (and beyond, when possible)
- Providing consultations if/when necessary to explore or help jump-start a project
- Hosting communities of practice amongst like-minded colleagues across languages
- Strengthening partnerships with other units and centers on our campus community to develop exciting and interdisciplinary programming
- Offering and/or supporting professional development opportunities both externally and in-house, through workshops, seminars, panels, round tables, etc.
- Co-sponsoring the annual Chicago Language Symposium
- Giving visibility to groundbreaking projects developed by our faculty
We invite language faculty to explore our webpages and to get in touch if they have any questions (languageresourcecenter@northwestern.edu)
