Generative AI 101Northwestern IT Teaching and Learning Technologies (TLT) invites applications to Generative AI 101, a professional development program co-sponsored by the Provost’s Advisory Committee on Generative AI. The program aims to increase instructors’ digital literacy in generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). All Northwestern instructors ready to begin exploring GenAI are encouraged to apply. The program is open to all instructors teaching in the Winter, Spring, Summer, or Fall term of 2026. Instructors across all Northwestern schools, disciplines, and campuses are eligible to apply. It is designed as an introductory-level course for those interested in understanding the basics before delving into more informed topics and uses of GenAI; participants will emerge with a plan to use generative AI in a course assignment for an upcoming course. Generative AI will be run two times during 2026:

Conference on Innovative Approaches to Language EducationLanguage programs in the United States have faced several challenges in recent decades. The current economic and political landscape are adding to those existing difficulties seemingly daily. In response, many institutions have found creative solutions to ensure that their language programs thrive by offering more diverse and flexible forms of language education to their students. In this conference, we hope to bring educators together to find potential avenues for new collaborations and research initiatives. We welcome participation from language educators, administrators, and enthusiasts as presenters or participants. There is no registration fee for this conference.

World Language Canvas Accessibility WorkshopJoin Northwestern IT Teaching and Learning Technologies for a hands-on workshop to help make your Canvas course sites accessible before the start of the Fall Quarter. In this workshop, we’ll look at what causes accessibility errors, how to identify and fix errors using the Pope Tech accessibility tool, and how to add accessibility checking into your workflow. The workshop will end with opportunities to work one-on-one with TLT team members to address specific errors in your course. By the end of the session, most of your accessibility issues should be fixed. This is a great opportunity to address these issues before classes start.

MWALLT Conference 2025: Strengthening PathwaysThe Midwest Association for Language Learning Technology (MWALLT) is seeking proposals for its 2025 fully online conference to be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Presentations will be delivered from your remote location and shared with conference participants via three Zoom streams, managed by The Ohio State University, University of Minnesota, and University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. The conference theme is "Strengthening Pathways." We seek proposals relating to K-16 pathways, internships and study abroad, life-long learning, as well as other pathways relating to the teaching of languages and cultures through the integration of technology. While proposals should exhibit an understanding of current trends in language pedagogy, the focus should be on praxis rather than on research.
